Health

Health

Health has become such an important word today that it is one of the most searched words in the Google search engine. Commonly, we understand health as a state of well being. But going deeper into this word, we find various interesting definitions of health. Since it is very important to understand what health is, we should discuss it in a fresh paragraph.

There are different definitions of health according to different ages, cultures, religions, civilizations, societies, organizations etc. The World Health Organization has its own definition of health and so do the Buddhists, the Hindus and the Taoists. There are some similarities and also differences in their definitions. Each language has coined its own word for health according to its speakers' understanding. Perhaps the most interesting meaning of health comes from the Sanskrit word 'swastha' which means healthy in English. The first part 'swa' means ' one's own ' and the second part 'stha' means 'place'. That means one who is in one's own place is healthy. A man who is at his own center or soul within his body is a man of health. Such a person does not have any illness, weakness or deformity either in his body or his mind or his soul. He is physically, mentally, socially and spiritually well.
If we look around us, it is almost impossible to find a person who is healthy according to what the Sanskrit word means to say about health. We ourselves cannot claim that we will not fall ill physically someday. Is there no way to make sure that no illness or accidents will ever happen to us? We know that health is possible from being at one's own center and therefore, it is very likely that diseases and accidents can be avoided. Now, the question is how to be at our own centers or souls; and therefore, if we can ever learn the method somehow. The answer to this can be the solution of health problem.

The advantages of being healthy and the disadvantages of being unhealthy are obvious. It is a waste of time to talk about them. It is sufficient to say that healthy people can have a better and more productive life while unhealthy people become incapable of doing things they want to do and they are doomed to live a life of pain, weakness and uselessness.

Finally, we all should try individually to help ourselves to become healthy. It is a matter of waking up from the sleep called ignorance; and that can happen only when we learn to travel inwards to reach our center to become healthy. Every school should teach yoga and meditation as a part of education all over the world. Before that humanity has little chance to be healthy.
